The Obama administration on Tuesday is set to propose stricter fuel economy standards in an effort to cut down vehicle greenhouse gas emissions, CNNMoney.com reports. The plan will require passenger cars and light trucks to get an overall average of 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016, an administration official said. The plan would accelerate by four years standards Congress passed in 2007.

Goodbye muscle cars.
-
Meh, there aren't any cool looking modern muscle cars anyway, rather stick with the old ones that actually look the part.
I think it's good that they're finally cracking down on shitty gas mileage, we've obviously got the technology to make them more fuel efficient, it's about time they get there act together.

well muscle cars in production will still exist but u will have to pay taxes bigger than what they are currently :gas guzzler tax: besides they wont kill nascar or f1 or drag racing so there will still be hot rods and suff just cost more to insure or register it thats all, just from now on cars made will have to be better so...
THE GOVERNMENT FAILS:
to much wanted to late

even if cars got 100 miles per gallon, gas would be 40USD per gallon. as long as people can screw each other for a dollar, there will always be a Vickie :)
get ya a hunting rifle and lots of ammo, so you can go kill your food, because when the shit hits the fan. gold wont feed you :D

what about an electric car that's charged with solar panels? then you've got a relatively self sufficient vehicle.
And there are cars that already get 100mpg. Check out the VW one litre, it's a diesel 3 cylinder that got close to 100mpg, of course it wasn't too safe because of how light it was. Regardless, the technology is out there, it's just not profitable to make cars that are that efficient.

I remember they said they were going to have solar cars by 2000 Lawl

our great government will not allow production of cars that do not use gas.
most of the fat cats in the government are oil men :)
