Happy Easter everyone! I hope you all found your baskets stuffed!
Sometimes people say the "real" meaning of Easter has been lost. Its origin began with the ancient Anglo-Saxons celebrating the return of spring with a festival commemorating their goddess of offspring and of springtime, Eastre. The goddess, Eastre, was worshipped by the Anglo-Saxons through her earthly symbol, the rabbit.
Then it became a Christian holiday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, how he rose from the tomb, as He said He would, and ascended into Heaven. He died on the cross for our sins, conquered them once and for all, on a Friday. Then on Sunday, he rose again, conquering death.
I'm not trying to turn this into another religious debate, I just wanted to make some of you aware of what is the "true" meaning of Easter Sunday. You don't have to believe it, but if you want to you can PM me and I can tell you more or send you some links or verses or whatever.
And do you ever wonder why it's always on a different day? Its the Sunday after the first full moon of Spring. To be more specific, it occurs after the vernal equinox which is always on March 21. Therefore, Easter is celebrated on a Sunday between the dates of March 22 and April 25.
