I already have bf2 installed, do i need to install special forces and then re-install the 1.41 patch? Is there a patch for special forces? Thanks in advance.

thats why i was asking if he bought it. Sounds like a bug. Maybe a hack wasnt really a hack.

the version he gave me are purchased discs, i was there when he got them at bestbuy, i know that part is legit. So do i have spyware/adware or something?
What should i do to remove it and how do i get the game running?

You should reinstall the patch. Everytime I uninstall a game, then reinstall, I have to patch it up again. The latest for SF is V 1.3 If you don't want to do both, then just use the 1.3 patch for SF.

i just reinstalled SF, same error message came up. What should i do? Is there a way to just get that missing .fx file and paste it in the game file somewhere? I don't know what the hell is wrong with this thing...

Found this on EA. It helps to totally remove BF and its configurations . Read it.

I did do that, seen in the post above i said "i just reinstalled SF."
I don't really want to reinstall everything because then i would have to re-borrow the bf2 discs from another friend, i don't have any of the game discs. But if that's the problem, then i guess i'll have to do that. I'm reading that thing now roshan, thanks.

EDIT: dammit, it says i need to get rid of BF2 as well, looks like it'll be a while before i can play bf2. So there isn't an easier or shorter way? I really don't want to re-ask for those game discs, re-install, re-install SF, re-patch it and then play it. Oh yeah, my BF2 now doesn't work either. Fuck EA.

I don't know, i just don't really like how they do games even though i play them a lot. Ya, it's fixed now, guess i had to re-install the 1.41 patch that i already had installed.
