ok i have been trying to install Fedora Core 4 in my laptop. I get up to the auto partition part. When i keep putting continue after i choose the option to erase all other Linux partitions, it shows an error message that says cannot continue because you did not select a root partition. or something like that. i keep trying but it just wont work. any clues on what i might be doing wrong.

ok i gave up with fedora. so installed ubuntu. everything is working now. but... ubuntu cant seem to get my wireless card. is there a way where i can add it or something. because i cant go online without it.
-
I have the same exact problem!!

I've not messed with Ubuntu --- Toby has it installed though, so he will probably be able to offer more insight. That said, I won't leave you out to dry. I'm a bit busy right now, but I'll look for something about wireless internet with them. I'm charged to do something similar for Swifty.
In the meantime, I highly suggest you start googling like a mad man. Remember this -- if you're having this problem, odds are a lot of others have had it. And Linux is a community of people who like to share solutions. So odds are, it's out there for you to learn from.

Compatibility all depends on what kind of card you have..post the brand and model number and Ill take a look.

ok after installing ubuntu i tried to install fedora core 4 and it worked. but it still wont read my wireless card. here is the only info i could find about my wireless card. it is a broadcom 802.11G wireless adapter. is there some way to find the model number on it? it's an integrated wireless card on my laptop.
-
Unfortunately that card is not supported by linux, but I can suggest some cheap ones you can get on the internet that you might want to buy.
This is the one that I have, and it has always worked flawlessly on all linux distros I have tried.

Its 35.50 and then 20.50 after a 15 dollar rebate. (great card)
If thats too pricey I MIGHT be able to find an alternative.
