I don't think there was any question that it was a bomb...it was a series of gas tanks connected to clocks with wires.  It may have been "amateurish," but that much gas could still have caused a big explosion, and in Times Square, that could have killed a bunch of people.

rofl, propane is a vapor gas. that means its a flash fire then goes out. i have blown up store bought tanks and you dont get much other than a flame then nothing. no big explosion from the default tanks...
