Build PC
« on: January 14, 2007, 09:38:01 PM »

So I'm building a PC for my cousin and just need some help on it. What is a good Motherboard and/or it's company. Nothing too fancy because he is only 13 yrs old but does play BF2142. Also, I want him to have Dual Core on it so he does not have to upgrade for a while. I have the case, the CD drives, but just need some info on Motherboards with Dual core cpu. Info about the type of Ram it accepts is also good. Thx.

CP, do not reply because you always claim to have these really expensive components. Lol.

lol at the cp comment, well i have my ASUS mobo and it runs great, never has it crashed, and it allows dual core processors, well mine is an AMD mobo, got it for an awesome price 2, it was $95 brand new.  It's the ASUS A8R-MVP.  that one takes PC3200 ram, 184 pin, and it supports up to 4gb of RAM.  look it up, it's pretty good.

Which socket Mobo do I get? I'm more into Intel, so is LGA775 good? So then the CPU has to match the socket #?(noob question)

and that has 2 do with this because....... ..

lol, back on topic yeah u would have to get the cpu socket to match the mobo socket, which i think the latest intel socket  is 775. so just get a intel core 2 duo socket 775 and bam you are set.

I would prob pick the CPU you want first then match the mobo.  Maybe something like this.
CPU: 89.00 its also a special with mobo for 127.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116249
Mobo : 105.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131032
Memory 110.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820134045

The mobo has SLI there is also AGP (old tech).  There are some ideas im sure others can give you some ideas.  I for one like AMD so I may not be much help.

I got an Asrock Conroe-Xfire E-sata. Its vista build, has a lot of the newest stuff in it, and can support the new processors. Don't know what the price is for you Americans.

I would not get dual core unless he is gonna be running many apps in windows. Duel core blows for games.

Wait till they make games that require dualcore, whiche can't be run without dualcore. Shouldn't take that long anymore

Well maby its not the 'can't run without dualcore', but I am almost 100% sure that there will be games that require you to have dual or quadcore in the future to play the game well.

That would mean that the game would be running 2 apps at once (2 EXEs), I really don't think that will happen anytime soon.
