uhhh...I consider Fall Out Boy to be Emo.
-
uhhh...I consider Fall Out Boy to be Emo.
I don't...I consider Emo to be slow, gloomy music. Like what was popular in the 90's... Fall Out Boy plays mainly fast, lively music...
-
the fall of troy isnt emo lol, its hardcore
-
Emo sucks. Van Halen is the man. One word for all you Halen Haters....Erup tion.

None of those are indie. You want good DIY music, listen to Desaparecidos, ...Trail of Dead and Pretty Girls Make Graves.
-
zomfg you fucking losers... go look at the fucking bands and guitarists I listed because I think I might know what I'm talking about... I only play guitar 8 hours a day... and that's not just to play some crappy emo chords.
Van Halen PRE-sammy hagar is ok. I still think Eddie wasn't very creative on his work, and the riffs weren't even written by him for a lot of the songs, he bought em.
Children of Bodom is fairly new... They have like what, 5-6 albums out but they're not as old as maiden and priest, they came out in the 90's.

Emo sucks. Van Halen is the man. One word for all you Halen Haters....Erup tion.

A lot of them do now. Shawn lane died 2 years ago of a heart attack, and Jason Beckers abilities were abolished by a muscle disease, and he's confined to a weelchair.

Rusty Cooley is an insane ass motherfucker. He's touring quite a bit right now, and he looks like hes 20 something, but really in his late 30's. Check out his 8 string playing on his website: http://www.rustycooley.com
Yngwie just released his new CD, Unleash The Fury... and is touring with that. He won't be in the US much because the US doesn't exactly appreciate his music anymore. He'll spend most of his time in Japan, Asia, the middle east, and Europe.
Vinnie Moore... is a sweet guitarist, and has down all the guitar playing for Pepsi's commercials in the last 15 years.
Stratovarious is still going strong, and EVERYONE will notice their song Anthem of The World in an instant. It starts off sounding like an orchestra song... but it's really one of the most kick ass powermetal songs ever.
download some of everyones shit from limewire or something, it really is good.
Oh yeah... Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and John Petrucci are scheduled for this years G3 lineup, it's the best US guitar tour.

If any of you want to hear an actual guitarist and not some showy tool who spent his years learning to shred on his guitar instead of developing his MIND, listen to Stephen Malkmus.
Stephen Malkmus - Pig Lib
Or pick up a Steve Reich album. There's plenty of great stuff out there, too much to warrant a pissing match between your favorite hasbeens.
-
just listen to the strokes and interpol and the sounds biznitches. http://www.thestrokes.com http://www.interpolny.com http://www.the-sounds.com .
but nothing beats classic rock.
-
hell yea interpol i got their antics cd. pretty mellow

The Sounds make gay music. Drop them. You need to be very careful about what media you allow yourself to be exposed to. Take caution and realize that though your mind is shaped in ways you cannot control, wresting as much control over it should conjur the most emphatic cries. Twisted, check out the other Interpol album. I like it more than Antics, and you might too. Never stop! Everything you find interesting will want to abandon you. Realize this, and keep moving, for though it cannot fight the current which controls its movement, you have the choice to follow or abandon.

Ok, stephen, malkmus, that guy, has 0 talent. He can't sing, he can't play guitar worth shit. If he has a message he wants to express, all he has to do is say it. I don't get why he is putting it through music, if he can't even play.
And if you're reply is I don't appreciate music... then you're wrong. I love opera, I listen to classical music played on all instruments, I think Mandy Moore and Alicia Keys are some of the best female singers ever, Whitney Houston's voice gives me chills, Elton John is one of the greatest song writers of all time, SRV has more emotion and feeling in his fingers than an nu-age-non-washed-out-non-talented-emo-anti-corporation kid. I love music, not pointless crap. Anti-flag can suck my balls.
Maybe you're just too lazy to learn it, and don't get it. There are lot of shred players who can play super fast, but with no feeling. If you still think that way, with Becker, Vai, Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Al Di Meola... etc... then I'm going to have to say, you are not a musician.:^ Now I don't know what you think of them yet... so I'm not gonna say anything...
Heres my friend Drew:

Chris:

Ken Burtch, awesome feeling in his stuff!:

The all-mighty rusty cooley:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=7340213
And definately, go look up the god Shawn Lane.
Developing the mind? How about the fact that instrumental guitar... is developing your mind. Learning complex scales, and organizing your thoughts if you're a writer. Instead of listening to lyrics, you hear a guitar. The guitar is now the voice. You want to say a word, you bend the string and make the listener feel that way. Anyone can say something, and understand it. It's more of a challenge to hear something and be able to understand it.
Oh yeah, I'm a shred head, I have thousands of hours of guitar (not just plucking fast), under my belt. The fact that your dumb ass who clearly hasn't experienced or looked into it, is pissing all over it right now, I'm pretty pissed. If you don't understand it, don't say it. One of the ways to feel shred music, is to play it. Each note has it's own feel, each vibrato, and it's something that can only drive you when you know what that feels like. First time I heard "Gray Flying Pianos" by Shawn Lane, I didn't know what to think of it. About 6 months later, and playing a ton of jazz and shred/virtuoso, it almost gave me convulsions.

nah i like the sounds it's indie. and they are swedish.
-
they sound pretty cool (the first band)
-
Iceman, it's a very poor (and embarrassing) rhetorical strategy to invent arguments and then refute them. Look, in your arrogance, did you consider that I do play music? I do understand that complexity of music can be something you LEARN and IMITATE, but I'm more interested in INNOVATORS like Xiu Xiu and Steve Reich - that was my point. Your friend Drew has learned to play the guitar moderately well, but he's not an innovator by any stretch of the imagination. Chris Quigley and Ken Burtch do NOTHING for music. So when I say developing the mind, I mean gathering resources with which to innovate, NOT learning what OTHER PEOPLE HAVE DONE AND APPRECIATING/IMITATING IT. Do you follow, boy? And if you think that appreciating opera implies the highest appreciation for music, you're delusional. Anyone who think someone has to have ANY experience with music to create music that could cause convulsions in someone is just bringing the world of music down. By the way, I do believe that Xiu Xiu's music does have an operatic quality, and you should listen to it because you may hear it in interesting ways that I cannot. Try this Xiu Xiu - Blacks from their album A Promise. Will cost you 99 cents on iTunes.

The most recent album was disappointing, and I'm predicting that's all the Modest Mouse that you've heard. Otherwise you wouldn't be laughing. A lot of artists' music goes downhill once they go to rehab or otherwise quit drugs. Quitting drugs can really hurt a man's art.
ok ill check those bands out Elliott
Cool, let me know what you think.

You picked some good songs of theirs. Silver Jews - Send in the Clouds for a more Rock 'n' Roll tune of theirs. My band covers New Orleans by them. Try Stop the Show by Built to Spill... there's a lot going on there so listen to it all the way through.
