I converted a 22 second long Fraps .avi  file to Windows Media .wmv files using WMEncoder.exe from Microsoft.

The .avi file is 351 megs.

The first conversion was to 1280 x 720 pixels,  a 13 meg file.

The second conversion was to 640 x 480 pixels. a 5.5 meg file.

The post wasn't about what was in the video, it was about how good the compression ratio gets with the conversion. And one was at 640x480 and it was only 5.5 megs. Plus converting .avi files to Media Player format means anyone with Media Player can view them.

Also, converting reduces the size of the video by 64 times. Less to store on your HD and less to upload.
