I'll take something if you've got it in Wisconsin - that's what I'm doing now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

It's a Dell Inspiron 1720.  There are no display drivers for this on Dell's website and I am clueless on where to go with this.

The video driver should work and there is a setting in the Nvidia control panel for this where you can customly set your own resolution to 60 (which you NEED that or above to play BF games), but for what ever reason when you test it, it won't take.

The monitor driver is controlled by Microsoft and from sometime in 2006.

Get on MSN.

That's what it appears to be.  I guess you can see if anything shows up or not when you install the drivers.

You should just be able to Google what ever your motherboard name is and search "'Motherboard name' drivers for XP" or something like that.

You can do this Paul.... or if you want us to look for them post what the motherboard's name is/nforce series it is.

DAMN I WAS TYPING THAT.

Just make sure you download the right model and what not for the driver and theoretically everything should work fine.  You should be able to see versions/other info in that same device manager.

Should be fine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232

At least find out what the motherboard's name is and see if you can download drivers specifically for that.

Hmmmm....... few questions.

Does that device show up when you're running XP?  Are you trying to connect to the router via wireless or what exactly?

Did you partition your hard-drive so that you can run multiple operating systems or do you just have Vista on there now?

I think we're going to need to see your Network Adapters.

Can you manage your PC or do anything that would allow you to see network devices (right-click on My Computer for XP > Manage).

Looks like this:

You can't view it on XP?  I don't know Vista that well but I'd assume you could change the looks of it to be like Windows 2000 or XP and then easily be able to find it.

What is your PC model?  If it is an HP or a Dell, you can look up that specific PC name and download all of the hardware device drivers that you would need for XP.

System name and hardware details might help.

I would tell you to install the drivers but I think you're a little smarter then that.

Help / Re: I am thinking about getting a new computer.
« on: June 03, 2008, 02:27:55 PM »
If you do buy XP Professional, it only supports 3GB of RAM, so no need for the 4GB.

Ummm.... you can have your 4GB of RAM.  XP Pro does use this (2GB for OS, 2GB for APPS).  Some computers can hold up to 8GB of RAM, but XP will only use 4GB.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555223

Do you really need 3 hard-drives?

I think you should try and build the PC yourself.... although I would agree with you on DELL because of the warranty and customer service that they offer.  I've had nothing but problems with my PC and always have no problem getting it replaced.

Help / Re: USB Router
« on: May 29, 2008, 03:28:27 PM »
Where is the problem?

Use the other computer as the source of the connection with the router attached to it.  Then just buy yourself a wireless USB adapter so that you can connect to that router.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124183

Either that or just simply buy yourself a new NIC card that can attach into any PCI slot.
