I got this proof today in gemoetry. Try to figure out why it doesn't work. Very interesting...
Let a=b
Multiply both by a: a²=ab
Add a² to both sides: a²+a²=a²+ab
Simplify: 2a²=a²+ab
Subtract 2ab from both sides: 2a²-2ab=a²+ab-2ab
Simplify:2a²-2ab=a²-ab
Divide by (a²-ab):2=1
Have fun figuring it out.

I may be just being a dumbass (Im just about to take math 099 :) ) but
2a²-2ab
I dont think you can subract a variable from another variable...jus t a thought.

Let a=b
1) In this case, I'll be using 1=1.
Multiply both by a: a²=ab
2) 1(1)=1(1)
Add a² to both sides: a²+a²=a²+ab
3) Since 1 squared is 1, add 1 to both sides.
1+1=1+1
Simplify: 2a²=a²+ab
4) 2=1+1
Subtract 2ab from both sides: 2a²-2ab=a²+ab-2ab
5) 2(1)(1) equals 2.
2-2=1+1-2
Simplify:2a²-2ab=a²-ab
6) 2-2=1-1
Divide by (a²-ab):2=1
7) Since a squared minus a times b isn't what we're using. We will just simplify one more time.
0=0

The problem lies in the statement Divide by a²-ab. We've assumed that a=b, so the statement is really Divide by a²-a² = 0. And division by 0 is undefined.

I should post my homework problems on here sometime and have you guys figure them out also. Not because they are hard, but merely because you guys will obviously do his homework so you will do mine also.
