Congrats on the install man.  I've got a couple (read 9) live/install CD sets of Ubuntu in my room right now.  I've given it a try, and I just can't get the hang of GNOME.  But I do like the sticky notes for Ubuntu.  Those are clever.

Your post got me thinking, maybe I should post my desktop to.  That way people who have no idea what Linux is all about can at least get an idea of what it looks like.  For those few who may be wondering, I'm running SuSE 9.3 Pro.

That's right folks, it's not all the different from Windows.  Scary.

My desktop

LINUX NEWBIE TERMS
GNOME -- Graphical User Interface (GUI pronounced goo-ey)  There are other versions of desktop managers such as KDE, IceWM, BlackBox, etc.

Untrue, Linux (created by Linus torvalds) and based on unix (like windows was based on DOS), was originally created simply for computing. In fact many companies use linux as a desktop today. Like, lowes I have seen runs their entire computer system off of linux.

Common reasons why linux is used as a server OS:
-Can run without GUI (saves a load of memory)
-FREE, to some extent.
-Much more customizable and stable than windows or mac.
-Open source, means FREE server software. (No paying for FTP server software...etc ...)

Its mainly an economic and stability issue.
