Health Care System
« on: March 16, 2010, 03:16:27 PM »

It seems to be in the need of some flame.  Is it too hard to get coverage if you have "pre-existing" conditions?  Is it over priced?  And what about the whole government thing?

What are your thoughts...

As a manager in a healthcare environment I can tell you this. There is no simple solution to the current healthcare system in this country but I do have an idea for a good start.

-Make it more cost effective for primary care providers and healthcare wouldn't cost so damn much to begin with.

It's the old analogy of Cost and Demand.

There is a massive markup from your most common vendors to supply your primary care providers with essential functioning supplies, manpower, necessary amenities to operate a healthcare facility, practice, or institution. If this markup is decreased then your primary care providers would not have to charge an elevated rate to provide healthcare.

Simply stated... Make it cheaper to provide healthcare and healthcare wouldn't cost so damn much. <- Period

Here is a thought... Stop the health care providers from charging $20 for "1" Tylenol, I bet that would help.

All i know is that until January 1st 2010, i didn't have health care provided by my employer because i missed open enrollment the year before. The result? 75 dollars for ONE canister of albuterol (for asthma). When i had to visit the doctor to have a broken bone reset in my foot, 225 bucks out of pocket for a 20 minute procedure, tops.

Now i have coverage through my work, but still ridiculous that that sort of cost can be applied to meds that retail way below the selling price.

Health care reform isn't even the main focus of the country right now, yet it's all the current administration wants to talk about.  I'm all for supplying health care to every American, I'm for a new system.  However, trying to pass something that won't even affect people for several more years isn't the way to go.  Let us keep in mind that this plan is a huge deficit just waiting to happen.  If this thing passes, the tax rates are sure to sky rocket in an attempt to lessen the blow.  In all honestly, I feel that this make shift plan is the worst thing that could happen.  If they actually thought it through, they would employ a larger infrastructure of doctors and nurses first to prepare for the large increase in medical procedures.  This monstrosity will go down as Obama's legacy.

As well as the elderly and the 20 somethings.

At every hospital i've done a revenue analysis in those are the two demographic ranges that have the highest statistical rate of non-reimbursed cost i.e. No health insurance i.e. Hospital having to charge the government for services rendered (Medicare, Medicaid, DSH, i.e. your tax dollars).

It's a matter of finding balance between an imperial system and a socialized system.

... so why is it the people in the middle of those two groups are being forced to provide for immaturity and senility?

Rhetorical Question?
