trouble with hacks
« on: August 19, 2005, 04:23:46 PM »

i went to the DOWNLOADS from the home page.  i clicked HACKS.  then, i clicked 1.6.  i went to DETAILS and clicked DOWNLOAD THIS FILE NOW!  when i did, my antivirus displayed a warning saying that the file was infected, could potentially harm my computer, etc...  however, i downloaded this file before (got wiped during upgrade) and it was fine for my computer.  so, i closed the box and said SAVE.  i saved it to MY DOWNLOADS, since this is where i saved it before and it saved instantaniousl y.  i closed everything down and went to MY COMPUTER, then to MY DOWNLOADS.  here's my prob.  i double clicked the app, clicked RUN, and i got a dialogue box.  it says, " MAFIA Public v1[1].2.exe is not a valid Win32 application."  what is going on and how do i take care of it?  thanks for the help!

well there has been people getting warnings from their anti-virus programs that the hack is a trojan horse virus and stuff, and this problem just surfaced for them after updating their anti-virus programs - being norton anti-virus from what I heard.

ok, i'm going to explain this.

ppl have learned how to hack into ppl's computers using game files.  so, Norton is designed to guard against game files that could potentially be a Trojan Horse.  it recognizes these files by recognizing interuptions in code.  the hacks are interuptions of code.  this is how they work.  what Norton doesn't understand is that the hack is used to hack the SERVER, and not the COMPUTER.  that is y, despite the size, Norton thinks it's a virus.  however, there are ways to fix this prob.

Erm. I don't know. You could ask what Bachlor King did. I think he got some other hacks, not sure.

Norton is hell a lot better what I got. Trend Micro PC-cillin anti-virus and crap. This program is pretty good at detecting viruses and stuff and making u aware of it by closing out the game u might be playing just for a tiny pop up alert but.....it doesn't remove the virus...just lets ya know it's there....
by the way I had Norton, but when upgrading to SP2 got incompatibiliy probs and wouldn't work. I miss my over protective Norton =(

Suggestion. Make a sticky or notice about this now common occuring issue as to minimize repeated threads.

I had the same problem. So I deleted Norton and installed Macafee. Since then no problems.
