Yes it is alot but it would probably be the only card you would need for a long while.  The 1060 is good for most people though i would recommend EVGA though they have a better track record and excellent warranty https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IPVSGEC/ref=twister_B01JA2DCKS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.  But for $600 you get quite alot of performance http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-1080-vs-GeForce-GTX-1060
