Pc cooling?
« on: April 05, 2009, 07:33:53 PM »

All of the pc components are set in stone, I just need some advice for cooling. Im using a full tower case with dual rear exhaust fans and i'm split between a liquid cooling system or a huge ass cpu heatsink. The liquid cooling is only a cpu waterblock for now, but it costs $150  :o. The heatsink that im looking at is about $70ish and preforms only slightly less. I DO plan on overclocking and want something that works for that, but is the liquid cooling worth the $150 right now when I'd only be using a cpu block?

I just built a PC and looked into liquid cooling, and from the forums I read it looked like it was more trouble than it's worth.  But I dont know all that much about it.

stick with a big heat sing and have a fan near it to pull the heat off it, the biggest thing is to keep the heat away from the board at all cost, fluid cooling is lame , since fans will have to keep it cool too so why have both, just fan it bro and u will be good

I would suggest getting the liquid cooling if you're actually going to overclock your cpu.

Now before you go and buy it, do you have the knowledge to install it yourself? That's something to think about.

In reality though, you should have more than enough air cooling going on to keep the cpu cool. Do you happen to know how many rpms your fans can reach?

On my allergy meds, and it's 3 am so I hope this is somewhat readable :P.

Liquid cooling - http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3829140&CatId=499

CPU heatsink - http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4244282&CatId=493

The fans on the heatsink are 1300 rpm and the liquid fan is 1300 to 2400 variable. I plan on overclocking the hell out of the cpu and in the future want to get the waterblocks to cool my video cards aswell, so thats my only motivation for liquid cooling.

stick with fans and heat sinks, just keep them clean and all will be ok. water cooling leaks, can turn that $1,100 rig into a nasty paper weight.

i have water cooling myself but indeed what bone says if you don't know what your doing you can easily fuck it up and destroy your motherboard,

imo buy

video card cooler:
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4348102&CatId=4027

CPU cooler:
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4348099&CatId=798

there both fully controllable in fan speed on the lowest fan speed you wont hear them and your pc stays really cool.
