computer upgrade questions
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:18:09 PM »

i have a gateway laptop, im looking to put more memory in it but im not sure what it takes for a memory card, i looked on gateways site and it gave me these options...

-2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 SODIMM
-2GB 200-pin SODIMM DDR2

Does anyone recommend anything else? im looking to improve my laptops performance basically starting with RAM.

Buy a new one noob. How old is the laptop? If it's of a certain age then you'll be polishing a piece of shit.

Why don't you post the model number of your laptop? Then we can narrow it down more.

In my experience, RAM brands don't make too much of a difference, but I think the most popular and respected are Corsair, OCZ, Kingston, and Patriot.  I've used Patriot and Corsair myself and haven't had a problem with either.  But yeah, either post the model number of the laptop or a Belarc Advisory analysis.

Kingston for life.

RAM isn't going to matter if your CPU isn't good enough. Bottleneck ftl.

the true bottleneck is the system bus :D if the cpu is 600mhz and the bus is 533mhz, it cripples the speed at what info is feed to the cpu, and out feed from the cpu. asm code is even limited at the bus speed to the the cpu. :)
