Don't Ask, Don't Tell
« on: November 30, 2010, 07:28:10 PM »

I was tempted to put this in the "flame" section:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/11/30/military.gay.policy/index.html?hpt=C1

How do you guys feel about gays being "open" in the military?

I don't think it's a big deal. In the Vietnam war there were white and black soldiers and they did whatever they did to survive. Remember that this was during the time of the Civil Rights movement, where many whites publicly showed their hatred towards the blacks. I've seen many stories from vets saying that they didn't care what the color of the person next to them was as long as they were on the same side. So similarly, the majority of soldiers now don't really care either.

It shouldn't matter if they're gay or straight, if they're willing to risk their lives for their country then let them serve.

Honestly, I don't care either way.  There have been some outstanding soldiers who served in the service that where gay.  I will give some instances at the end.  It is there choice, some debate if they are born with a gay "gene", but either way, it is there personal preferance.  It is there life.  When it becomes a problems are when either they try  hit on you or "turn you out", are for the the lack of a better term, flaming, or when they are outted and get hasseled.  Those are all problems that can be best prevented if we stay with the don't ask don't tell policy.  I have had gay soldiers in some of the companies I was in, granted most of them where girls, and not the hot gay girls either.  The ones that will kick your ass.  They where all good soldiers.  Anyway, what I am getting at is I don't care either way.  Now here is a few articles about gay war heros.  The last one I don't agree with what they did, however, it is the policy.

I think the main issue is that people don't want their same sex being attracted to them, and watching them shower or change clothes.

I don't care if they're in the military, just put them in the coast guard or navy.

I thought that was the only place they tried to join, so they could be around seamen.

LOL that's a parody website, that didn't really happen. The Onion publishes tongue-in-cheek social commentary with invented situations to stress how ridiculous something is, like the "dont ask dont tell" policy.

The senate has voted and the president will sign it to make it official:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/18/senate.dadt/index.html?hpt=T1

You are now allowed to ask and tell.
