Long story short, Funnyjunk.com is suing TheOatmeal.com for defamation of character after TheOatmeal claimed (and proved) an exorbitant amount of copyright infringement. Funnyjunk hosted copies of TheOatmeal's comics all over the site without sufficient credit towards their author. Funnyjunk demanded $20k in order to settle out of court, but TheOatmeal gave FJ the middle finger and instead decided to collect donations to make, or in this case exceed, the 20k mark then donate the entire pot to charity instead of paying FJ. This is called the Bear Love fundraiser.
