Title: Disk Errors
Post by: *MAFIA* Hellraiser on April 15, 2009, 08:23:36 AM
So I ran the disk checker and it says it can't complete due to errors.  So my question is how do I fix these errors?  It won't give me a specific error.  What do I need to do?  If there is some type of hardware, can someone give me a link?  Hopefully a free one.  And I mean a FREE one!!  Or there is always the secrets.

I tried to defrag.  I guess the errors are that bad, cause it won't even let me defrag.  It told me to run the error checker.  Damn it.  I wonder if that is why my computer shuts off and restarts.  HMMMMM.

Start, Run, CMD

chkdsk c: /f /r

Old school but will fix 95% of surface errors.

Did that also, but says I have to many.  I am running windows update right now and see if that may fix it, and then I am gonna try this again.

Right Click on My Computer, Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager.

Under the device tree click on Disk Drives. Double click the disk in question. Post the Manufacturer and Model if you can find it. If it's not in device manager then it will be written on the drive itself.

Generally each manufacturer makes a diagnostic program to check for errors on their drives, i.e. Western Digital DLG Tools, Seagate Seatools, e.t.c

After we find the manufacturer and model we can find the right tool to fit for your needs.

Edit:

Also, if you do have to crack open the case, make sure not to stick your cock in the processor fan... I learned that one the hard way...

If you haven't done it already, before you do anything else. Back-up any files you would MISS if/when that hard drive dies.
