Title: Wireless adapter
Post by: Dymdez on January 30, 2010, 09:58:04 AM
I just bought an XBOX 360 and I'm in dire need of a wireless adapter. Does anyone know where I can find a good adapter that is relatively small and not too expensive? Used is ok if need be. But I tried Wal Mart and Target, all the prices vary. Maybe RadioShack?

The official one is 100 bucks, but you can find them cheaper on eBay.  I've heard it's kind of hit-or-miss with the cheap adapters designed for PCs, but you could buy one of those from newegg or tigerdirect.  If you have a laptop, you can also plug in an ethernet cord from the xbox to the laptop and bridge the connections.

Finally got a 360? Nice.

Steps to happy game play-

1. Buy an adapter
2. Buy Live and add whoops0330
3. Buy MW2

And Waffle, what do you mean, "bridge" the connections?

Basically, your laptop gets a wireless connection, which is then transferred to your xbox 360 via an Ethernet cable.  There are plenty of tutorials on youtube that show you how to do it.  It can be a real pain though (basically you have to hook your 360 up to your laptop every time you want to play online) and may require some irritating port forwarding depending on your router.

Ok well I have an ethernet cord about 5 feet long. So basically I could plug one end into my box and another into my laptop and connect to XBOX live?

Yup.  It takes a few seconds to configure (just type in "xbox 360 bridge connections" on youtube) but will work (unless you have an annoying hardware firewall, in which case you may have to configure it some more).
