I found a baby one in my yard today, but it is illegal to keep it.

Love their shells, so easy to see all the  little detail of Tortoises...

Florida? Don't keep it long, put it back were you found it and make sure it is "headed" in the same direction when you place it where you found it. DO NOT FEED IT (it will come back, that you don't want, Cats and it should be doing what it does on its own) and try to wait until he/she is out of your safe zone/line of sight (just in case something wants to try and make it dinner).

i dunno about the "feed it and it will return" logic, for almost all animals this is true but the one time i had a pet run away was when my turtle took off. We fed it plenty and i spent all summer building an outdoor pen for it, the little sucker burrowed underneath the chickenwire that we had 2ft below the surface and left. Probably got eaten by a coyote.
