Self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, presumably he had the intent to donate his brain like Dave Duerson.

Great player, played with skill and compassion.  Didn't know him off the field, but most say he was a great guy too.  It's sad he thought he should kill himself, if that is indeed what happened.
