Any car buffs in here? I'm looking to get a paint job for my car, and there are a few options. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on the subject? I've done some research, but would just like to know if you have a story or personal preference. Here are the choices:
1) Single stage, synthetic enamel with gloss built in
2) Two stage, synthetic enamel base with clear coat gloss on top
3) Two stage, urethane base with clear coat on top
The price increases as you go down the list, but I was wondering if there are any MAJOR differences. I know they're all slightly different, and you get what you pay for...

First off, what kind of car is it?

2005 Acura TL. I don't really need/want it to look immaculate, just nice enough. It needs some new paint because this hot FL sun is starting to make it fade. The color is black.

Go with option 2 then. And make sure you use wax to protect it with whatever option you go with

I've only ever painted my 71 VW Bus, and that was using mixed paint from the shop in town. After finding out that a full body paint job would be $1,000+ I decided to just spray it at home with an air compressor and $40 per bottle paint. Definitely doesn't look professional but still looks pretty clean. Hellraiser is right, I apply wax on my GTI every 6-8 weeks and it makes a huge difference and that clear coat you would get with option 2 will give extra protection you're looking for.
