Try removing the default profile for firefox and starting from scratch. The directory for your firefox profile should be listed in "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\". Now in this directory you will find the directory containing your Firefox profile, there might be more than one directory. To start from scratch just go ahead and remove the directory(s). Warning, doing this will remove your bookmarks if you do not back them up first. To back-up your bookmarks just navigate into the directory containing your profile and look for an .html file named appropriately. .. "bookmarks". Hopefully this will do it.

Alternative: If you don't really feel like going through all that try uninstalling, run a defrag on your drive, re-install.

Good luck.
