Title: Blocking
Post by: *MAFIA* Scooby on November 14, 2006, 06:21:07 PM
Ok so I want to block some sites and add restrictions in both firefox 2 and internet explorer 7. I need to block some sites for my siblings such as myspace, and restrict downloading of any software. How do I do this? Or is there any program which will let me do it for free? Thx. I really need it asap.

oOoOoOoO You should just beat there ass if they get on there or download anything there one choice. Or use parental control system which those easy to get around and what school ones use are easy to get around too. you probably want to use this

The parental control feature would work if your network is running purely proprietary based browers... i.e. Internet Explorer, MSN, AOL. But you want a cross platform solution. For this you are going to have to intercept the outgoing and incoming port that is accessing the content (port 80).

I recommend setting up your system as a proxy server. There are several enterprise solutions such as Microsofts ISA server but they are ridiculously expensive unless you *cough* find it online *cough*. But there are free proxy server software suites scattered around the net that are either share or freeware.

I believe you're allowed to block some sites using NetGaurd. Or something sounding like that.

Alright, I did some browsing and came across Hosts files. I found out how to use this, and it works great. Better than all these software programs out there. Bonehead, to block downloads, should i just put in the URL of a site where they might try to download it from? Thanks everyone for your help. Much appreciated.   Found it here:
