Title: My dream build
Post by: *MAFIA* Bonehead on September 03, 2007, 08:21:11 PM
American muscle has always been my love, the sheer beauty and raw power of a well built car is a treasure to behold.

My love is a 68 Chevy chevelle, I want to build a pure powerhouse built for high hp and ass kicking torque.

My dream is to hand build one from a stock car, I want to give it a life that screams American muscle! Nothing like the sound of a v8 opening up with a quad intake and turbo assist. Makes my dream even more of a want.

do u have the $ to build one from scratch?

it's amazing that people can actually build whole cars.

if you were to do it bone, can u estimate approximately how long it would take you?

Once I get my business going and money coming in I will build one, I will get a stock, do a complete tear down, restore and rebuild. About 2 years for 1 person.

To build a real Race car it takes about 4 yrs and 60k for one person.  I will try and get some pics of cars I have worked on.

I got my 71 VW Bus for 600 bucks, no motor, severe window rot (no metal under neath the front window, you could poke your finger through it) and mint condition interior, no body damage, and two holes in the floor.

Two and a half years later, there's now a motor that took two summers of me and my dad to build up (he's been working on VWs since the early 60s, and very skilled in fiberglass work/repairs) and all holes and body rust (not surface rust) is complete.

Let me tell you, it's cost about another 1000 USD moneys and two people working pretty damn hard, but it sure is possible. It now runs perfectly, has brand new New Old Stock giant disc breaks, perfect interior and completely rebuilt front window sill, can't even tell it wasn't there 2 years ago.

People are gonna tell you it costs a hell of a lot of money and time, and that's true...but it sure as hell isn't impossible. I know my VW van can't compare to a 68 Chavelle, but the concept is the same; we didn't have a hell of a lot of money to put into it, but we worked our ASSES off, and it happened. Now, it is my dream car (yeah, don't give a shit if you think VWs suck) and i couldn't be happier.

I got it sophomore year in high school and now as a freshman in college, i've got the best camp-mobile/sex trolly i could have ever wanted. Good luck to you, i've got a buddy who goes to school with me who has a '68 Chavelle, 4 speed stick shift, with one of those fake leather type tops. I did it for car of the year when i was on the school newspaper, i know i have an assload of pictures of it, i'll post them when i can find them. Took him 4 years to restore it, and now that thing is mint, the only thing that sucks is the 12mpg.

EDIT: well, i couldn't find any pictures of it, but luckily i saved every issue of the school newspaper and snapped a shot from it. Btw, it's a 68 Chevelle Malibu.

RE EDIT: well fuck me, camera isn't working. Oh well.

Once my business gets going, all I will have time for is my dream! I am a master mechanic, and use my skills daily. I can machine, weld in 6 professions, cut in 4 professions, know structural integrity, frame balancing, blah blah.

I know I can do it in 2 years from ground up, if I have the funds, and I will... I want to drive the beast, do some street racing, and track. I will build her with my love and heart, she will not fail as I will be a part of her and she will be apart of me.

I've always wanted a 1970 Dodge Challenger with supercharger, maybe one day. You can pick up a wreck quite cheaply to rebuild for about $8000

My wife wants me to restore a 66 Mustang. I can do the Engine and mechanical parts, but I suck at body work.

I would love to rebuild a 58 Vette.  I won't have that type of money for years.  So I am going to settle for lifting and doing a bunch of shit to my truck.

Cars have tin can metal not wood, stick to building houses... And if you and your homies do manage to figure out the impact, be sure you use rice...
