Hey yall i have a Lenovo thinkpad that i got in december last year. And now the cd drive is messing up. It was working fine until i put another cd in the drive, then it stopped reading cd's all together. The cd tray still opens, and i can hear it spinning inside of the computer. Does anyone know or have any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to fix it?
-
clean the disks
put the cd's face down
replace the laser that reads them.
-
ok i just tried a dvd in there and it worked. and i put battlefield in there and it didnt. and my bf cd does not have a scratch on it
so pretty much cds dont work but dvds do

Your CD driver is fubar, go to the IBM? web site and see if there is update for the CD drive. Or check the disk that came with the laptop and do a driver repair.

And that is what I told him on vent. Why the fuck doesn't anyone believe me when I say something?

lol clean the drive lens, if no go. replace it, drives don't need drivers pawpaw they are solid state in eprom :D only the enhanced state of the south bridge needs software to go beyond the default program :P in other words asm instructions sets are in the eprom "bios" only memory for default operation's on the output are needed for basic hardware :P enhanced is needed for software interpretation s of the hardwares algorithm to asm sets :P the asm is the software controller for hardware.
:P sorry pawpaw but i love you and respect you, but more knowledge is always a good thing. :)

Ok then, let me do this... Do a firmware upgrade. ok, happy Bone? You didn't say anything about a firmware update with all that knowledge you just posted.
Don't tell the guy to buy new until all options are covered to fix the problem... It is very possible the drives firmware ("eprom") has lost its "instruction" to read CDs but can still read DVDs.
And my God stay off the smilies, you make me think you are not "you" posting. Also your post looks like a "copy and past", you never take that much time using "big words" to post.

ok so what is a firmware/eprom thing

ok so what is a firmware/eprom thing
firmware is viagra.
Sorry I couldn't resist. LOL.

loaded you hurt my feelings :( the only bios is on the mb :D drives have a controller, and it needs instructions on how to deal with its data. hence bios :D
and yes i copy pasted everything, i dont know a god damn fucking thing about shit. i made it all up and blew it out my fucking ass. so if you want to bs me in public you better have a good god damn reason.

ok so what is a firmware/eprom thing
Sorry, but forget it. If you don't know what it is then it is very possible you could burn the drive out completely.
But, if you want to try... http://search.lenovo.com/Search/?q=cd+drive+firmware&v=15&lang=en&cc=us&Search.x=0&Search.y=0&Search=Search
You haven't given any info to really help me find what you need, so the the above link is the best I can do for you right now.
EDIT... Removed, Not worth the argument.

ok man ill try that and sorry for no info but i dont know anything about computers
-
i am sure that when you wear the sig maggot made, that all comes good!! Trust me

You might have changed some settings by mistake. Try putting your computer back a week and see if it works then. Thats what I do when something messes up and more often than not it solves the problem.
-
what do you mean put it back a week?

go to an old restore point about a week or two back.
