Title: Getting Ready for BF2
Post by: StEwIe_GrIfFiN on June 04, 2005, 02:12:26 PM
Okay, I'm am so excited about the newly anticipated game coming out, Battlefield 2, and I am getting my computer ready for it so it can work at optimum efficiency. Mostly I am going to get a new video card, probably a ATI Radeon 9250 Video Card (100-436012) that has 256 MB. Or I will get a similar EVGA e-GeForce FX5500 Graphics Card (256A8N313DX) also 256 MB. Now i know thats not even close to the best, but it will do.

If anyone has a suggestion for a video card that is about $129.99 that are better than these that would be GREAT! Because i want the best, that is in my price range. And also if anyone has a say on whice of the video cards i listed above is better that would help me alot.

There is also one more thing i want to know is better, or what the difference is, and that is between the CD or the DVD version of BF2. I know that you need a special drive for the DVD version and I do have that, so if anyone were to tell me the differences between the two, that would be great. (ex. On MOH Pacific Assult, the DVD version has extras.)

Also, what is everybody else doing to get ready for BF2?

EDIT: For all of you who don't know Battlefield 2 comes out June 21! YEAH! :D

Get the nvidia card.

As for cd vs dvd. I don't think there is any difference except if you get the cd version and lose any one of those cds you aren't going to be able to reinstall.

Yeah I reserved the dvd version...And to get ready for bf2?

Nothing. Ive got 1 gig of ram and a 2.5 ghz processor with a 128 mb graphics card...good enough for me.

Its a keyboard that you can buy "keysets" for different games. Basically it just moves the wasd keys and the main keys like crouch, prone, and 12345 keys to a seperate part of the keyboard. LMAO I love it. It says "be the fastest with labeled keygroups". Yeah, well while you are reading the pretty label switching your weapon I'll be pulling my knife out owning your ass.

Stewie - you can get what you can afford, I undertsand, but you are going to waste more money in the longrun when your logitrash craps out 2 months down the road.

Get the ati card nvidia blows I have used both and find ati has better performance under load.

I have also used both and ATI has fucked me over many times. Never had one single problem with nvidia.

Insane why you telling him to get a NVIDIA card? Every time a new game comes out and they make a driver for that card things get ALL screwed up. I am sure you know about the driver problems just for BF1942 and BFV games. Now maybe things have changed, but I know I NEVER had a problem with ATIs drivers for any game.

About the stick… Yes get the Saitek. IMO stay with a cord, don’t get wireless.

EDIT... Posting when you two were.

I never said nvidia failed me I just notice that the harder you push an ati the better it does nvidia does have a good low throttle processing thou I guess it depends on what its going to be used for but ati is the best imo for games nvidia is best for graphics and movies.

Well I don't know what you are talking about re: drivers. Like i said I have used both (2 ATI cards and 2 Nvidia cards over the past year) and I had loads of problems with both ATI cards. I didn't have one single problem with either Nvidia card. Update my drivers whenever there is a new set out and I have never ahd a problem in any game, so I don't know what you mean.

In my opinion Nvidia's quality and stability far surpasses that of ATI.

I can only tell you what I have seen on the net. NOW it is possible the ppl that were having the problems were just ppl that didn't understand how to install drivers. BUT there sure has been alot of them over the last 3 years talking about problems with that card and its drivers for BF.

Oh... StEwIe as you can see your sig is installed.

Post by: Ins4n3 on June 04, 2005, 04:30:53 PM
Well I have no idea about THAT card. But the cards I have/had never gave me any problems. The ATI cards I have had (a 9200 and a 9800 pro) both gave me a bunch of driver issues, and even when I got those straightened out they just LOVED to overheat.

Everyone has their problems with one or the other and from what I have read, Nvidia usually has less problems. Now if there is something wrong with that particular card then by all means get the ATI, but If not get the Nvidia.

LOL that helped out Beetle.

You are right Insane there could be problems, I mean I have had nothing BUT ATI and I have had 2 cards (well the niose in this one stop and it is working fine) with fan problems, but the other 8 or 9 have been fine.

StEwIe... We really don't mean to mess with your head. I know it might not seem this way but we are trying to help. Try going to PCworld and see what they have to say or even PCGamer, just do a google for the sites.

It's a review for a FX5500, not the one you are looking at, but the same chipset anyway. All I can say is... get yourself some fast ram.

Quote
Well, what can we say about the all new 5500. It performs as expected under the 5600 and above the 5200, it's stable and has a package of features that is just mind boggling for it's price. The new NVIDIA drivers even contains a pop-up stopper. (NVIDIA please stick to your product okay?; that's just silly).

Gaming wise, what you can expect from the card is that you'll be able to play most older games perfectly fine. Even quite a few of the newer games will have no big problems with this card under two conditions. The first; you need to stay at 1024x768 maximum and secondly you do not enable Antialiasing features as the card simply does not have enough processing power. It's not at all bad though. Heavy upcoming games you say ? Forget about it, this card is not suitable for it.

So, if you are not really a huge gamer and needs stability, good image quality and features like good DVD of Media playback, Dual View etc etc .. hey then this card is a steal. It incorporates all NVIDIA patented technology you'll ever need from a graphics card.

im gonna get the saitek, and no keyset, that will save me about $50 so i will get it. and my logitech joystick that i have has been working fine for about 8 years of playing, but i need a new one because it is very out of date.

so to be clear this is what im gonna do:
1) Buy BF2 dvd version
2) Buy either the Nvidia video card or the ATI video card
3) Buy a Saitek joystick
4) Don't Buy the Zboard

Okay Stewie, I'll lend my 1337 computer knowledge to a youngling like yourself. First off, since you don't have any prefernces, I can probably guide you in the right direction. First off, if you want to stick to your 129.99 price limit, then this is your best choice: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/FeedBack/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16814131213

But, if you wish to spend a little more (which I reccomend) then this card completely runs up and down on the 9800Pro:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122206

Ultimately though, it's up to you. Either way, both cards are good and completely own the FX5500 and FX5200 to hell. The 256mb of memory in them is probably 64-bit, thus making it 256mb of shitty ass memory.

And don't be fooled by those two suggestions Stewie. Even though that 6600GT has less memory, it is by FAR better than a 9800. But if you decide o stick with your two original choices, then I suggest the Nvidia as well.

Oh yeah and Ap3, that 9800 isn't within his price limit LOL.

I suggest you read a bit about the 6600 chipset, and also I recommend http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=323288 if you don't mind spending the extra money on the video card.

It comes with a 10 dollar rebate.

Rebates or not, the base price is not in his limits ;). Hell the 6600GT has a rebate but he has to  actually PAY like $40 more than his price limit to get it at all.

I've personally used ATI since I started building my PCs. I had an NVidia once and it gave me major driver problems. Obviously every person here has differing issues with either brand. The biggest things to worry about:

Grab ATLEAST 128MB of VRAM, 256MB preferably.

Check to make sure your MoBo has AGP capabilites, and if so, grab an AGP card, hands down. PCI Express would be preferable if you have a newer computer.

On that note, anyone know if BF2 can take advantage of PCI Express?

And do mafia also gonna make servers with BF2? 'Cause if it comes out i wont be online on BF1942:D. But you understand that one:). (I hope)
