Here's a program to fix the BF2 lack of widescreen support. I'm pretty sure a few of you guys have widescreen monitors...wel l now you can get all the advantages out of it. It increases your field of view, and has been approved as "A-OK" by PB. Legit to use in MP, not considered a hack. Enjoy.

well i mean Punkbuster used to consider it a "hack" because you can see more with a WS than with a normal one. Now they let it go, and are allowing people to use them to full advantage.

Oh well double post... Anyhow, anyone think about modding this program to work on BF42?
That is if it works better then doing this in the Bf42 con files...

And this "renderer.field OfView 1.1" in the VideoDefault.c on file
Above doesn't really give you more view, it just sets BF42 to give you that resolution, and it is a "Stretch" screen.

I don't think bf42 supports widescreen. And pawpaw a double post is one 5 min later lol not days.

No it doesn't, I know that... I just thought to make it easier for others to get wide screen to work with the higher res. I stay at 1400x1050 and looks fine to me.
I just wanted to point it out in case someone wanted to say I was double posting.

Sorry for bringing this back up, but I have a question.
How do you enable the fix? I already added the widescreen line to the target file, opened the file, and turned on BF2. At the bottom of the WS app, it says Game is running, but for Fix enabled it says No. So is there a key that I have to press to enable it?

Yes. Press alt and f4. It is awesome.

Usage:
1) Select the game you'll be running.
2) Select the aspect ratio of your monitor.
3) Use numpad * to enable or disable.
Notes:
You can start this application at any time, whether a game is running or not.
The update rate slider is in milliseconds. The lower the setting, the faster it
updates, and the less noticeable the zoom update will be. Setting it too low
may result in improper updates of the zoom. 20ms seems to work alright for me.

Ok so when I press the numpad * there really is no noticeable difference. Num lock light is on so its not that.
Am i supposed to see the difference?

well i've seen a huge difference when trying it at my buddies house on his bigass 32 inch HD TV when we hooked it up to my comp. I can't see it on mine because i don't have WS monitor. There was a huge thread on it in the FH2 forums, their obviously is some kind of noticeable difference because you could easily tell in the screenshots included.
And a lot of people were considering it a "hack" because it literally extends your side view and barely shortens it also. You actually have an 8% field of view increase when it's used properly. I'll try to find the FH2 forum link to it, and you can have a read on it there, i really know nothing about tech stuff like this.

Instructions
To use this program:
For Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142, edit the shortcut and add: +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 (or whichever widescreen resolution you use).
For Call of Duty 4, you must set the in-game aspect ratio to standard (4:3) for this to work correctly!
1. Start Widescreen Fixer.
2. Select the game you will be playing.
3. Select the aspect ratio of your monitor.
4. Start the specific game.
5. Use the Numpad * (v1.00 to v1.06), Right Control (v1.10), or ; (Semi-Colon) (v1.10.1 to v1.41.1) key to enable or disable the fix.
The update rate slider is in milliseconds. Set this to a low value for games like Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 (Old Method). For the other games, it is safer to set the slider to 250ms to 500ms as it doesn't need to update so much.
