Help / Freeware AVI Converter

I've spent the last hour or so trying to find a freeware .avi converter, to convert my 1:30 hour long videos from school into a format that my sony dvd player or ps2 can read.
Does anyone know of a completely free file converter? I've downloaded a few that claimed to be entirely free, but required you to pay.
It would be nice if it was user friendly too, since I am terrible at video editing.

Help / CRT Monitor Issue

Whenever my family alt tabs out of a game, or go into a game, the screen goes blank occasionally. To fix the issue I have to cut off the monitor for 10-15 seconds.
I rolled back the video card's drivers, and once that didn't help I updated it to the last current one, which also didn't help.
It's a 3-5 year old 19 inch Envision crt monitor.
Does anyone have any experience with crt monitors, or my issue in general?
I may go into it and see if anything is wrong, but that will probably be a last resort.

Going to vent my frustration..
Girl of my dreams had a crush on me over the summer. I see her again today all over a dude that looks like a heavier version of me. I see her again on my way back to my car after class, she tells me she liked me, but the other dude beat me to her.
