General / Sgt. Bob is now BassSlappa?
« on: March 02, 2017, 11:54:43 PM »
Hey guys  :) I graduated college, got a job, got money, and got a sweet new gaming desktop  O0  Which means I've been playing a ton of Battlefield 1 lately, and the name I've been using is -MAFIA-BassSlapa (fuck character limits).  Can my name be changed on here from *MAFIA* Sgt. Bob to *MAFIA* BassSlappa? I can't remember what the normal route for doing that is, which is why I'm posting here. Please and thank you. Also, whats up everybody?

Help / Micro SD Card From Hell
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:41:36 AM »
Sup guys,

I have a challenge for you all.  I purchased a sandisk 64GB micro SD card about a year ago to add some storage to my Galaxy S5, and it recently took a dump.  Like a major fucking dump. First my phone started failing to recognize it, then when I plugged it into my laptop's card reader via an adapter windows wouldn't recognize it either. Now, the fucker crashes everything I plug it into now.  Windows eventually recognizes it as an SD card after five minutes or so, but if I right-click on it, windows explorer just crashes.  I've plugged it into three different computers now, with the same exact results on every system.  I've tried four different recovery software programs (ZAR, Recuva, Photo Rec, and EaseUS) to try and get some pictures off of it, and each of them crash when I point them at the SD card. Even chkdsk won't touch it, it just says chkdsk is not available for RAW drives.

My question, is what the hell could have happened to this micro SD card to crash every computer I plug it into?  It crashes windows explorer every time I try to access it, to the point where the computer will hang up until I physically remove the drive.  It also won't turn off until I remove the drive, nor will it boot up unless I remove the drive.  Have I created some sort of super virus? Also any suggestions on how to recover any photos off of it would be awesome, because there's a lot of photos on there I'd love to recover.

Also apartment searching in LA is awful.  :shoot:

What's up guys, just dropping in to say hello.  I can't believe I haven't been kicked out for inactivity. What's everybody up to these days?  Has everyone moved on to BF3+BF4 now?

I'm about to graduate college with a bachelor's in Music Management and a minor in business.  I'm heading down to LA over spring break to meet with some industry professionals and hopefully land a job in a recording studio or record label or management agency or whoever will hire me.  I've produced a few albums over my years in college, and have two more currently in the works, so I've been spending a lot of time in the recording studio.  Eventually I might be looking into doing sound design for video games. Senior year is kicking my ass and it's been months since I've actually played a video game though.

Let me know what you all have been up to.

Also check out this mash-up. It's probably one of the most significant pieces of music of the 21st century.

Help / Installing OS onto an mSATA drive.
« on: August 19, 2013, 10:02:54 AM »
So I got my laptop from being repaired (turns out it was a faulty mainboard, not the graphics card, but they fixed it for free) and now I'm looking to make one upgrade on it.  It has an mSATA port, so i'm thinking of buying a 64GB mSATA drive and installing my OS and a few programs onto it to speed it up, while keeping everything else on my 1TB hard drive.  In theory it should also smooth out a lot of hiccups and latency I get when mixing music if I have my audio software on one drive and the actual audio on another drive.

I have a Lenove y580, and this is the mSATA drive I'm thinking about getting.

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-mSATA-Internal-Solid-CT064M4SSD3/dp/B008393M2S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376934523&sr=8-1&keywords=64+gb+msata

Does this sound like a good idea? I've heard some people say mSATA drives aren't as fast as SDDs, but i'm sure it would be a boost over my 5200 RPM harddrive.

What do ya'll think?

Help / Graphics Problem
« on: July 18, 2013, 01:15:06 PM »
Ok so I just got my new laptop, with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX660m.  I played BF3 for the first time yesterday, and holy shit did it run it nice, I had everything set on ultra high and it handled it all beautifully.  But then when I was done playing I shut off my laptop and it installed a windows update before shutting down.  Then when I turned it back on, and opened the game, BF3 was laggy as hell.  I tried opening the nvidia control panel to see what was up but it wouldn't open because it said I didn't have an nvidia card installed...So I opened up my device manager and sure enough, it showed that my graphics card was set to Intel HD 4000, the onboard graphics.  After resetting my computer, the device manager listed my nvidia card along with the Intel graphics, but disabling the onboard graphics wouldn't make the computer switch to the nvidia card.  I updated the drivers on my nvidia card but that didn't do anything.  So, is there a BIOS setting or something I have to go in and change? I'm using windows 8.

I finished my first year of college about a month ago and i'm off for the summer now. Sort of.  I have a few different jobs (teaching classes at the local music store, giving lessons, running sound for the farmers market in town, playing every week at a few restaurants, etc) on top of gigs, but I have more free time than I did when college was in session.

That being said, what games do you guys still play? I just ordered this: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y580/index.html

So i'll be able to play most games now.  Is it worth getting battlefield 3 still?

Help / Fucking HP
« on: September 22, 2012, 07:20:58 PM »
So i'm wondering if I have a lawsuit here.  I sent in my laptop because HP offered to fix my defective battery/broken screen hinge for free. They have a form to fill out so that they transfer your files "in the event that windows needs to be reloaded".  I filled out the form to have them do so, but wrote on it not to reload windows because all that was wrong with it was the battery and hinge.  I got the laptop back with my receipt, and all my files were gone.  I called them up and they initially said they just reloaded windows, then I called another guy and they said they replaced it, and called another guy and he said they scrapped my hard drive.  My receipt didn't show they even touched the hard drive.

So they fucked me over with that, losing thousands of family photos, tons of important documents, all my schoolwork, all my music i've written, all my games, and a shitload of music on Itunes.  No I didn't have it backed up, because I don't have money for an external hard drive, and I didn't think they'd be braindead enough to erase ALL my data.  I didn't even think they'd bother turning it on, since none of it was software related. And if that's not bad enough, my battery is worse than when I sent it in.  Now I gat alerts saying my battery is defective, and my laptop randomly shuts off. They didn't even replace it, they said they'd ship me a new one with the laptop.  When I got the laptop, there was no battery to be found, and its been two weeks now.

Any advice?

Help / Butterfly Search Engine?
« on: June 22, 2012, 06:15:12 PM »
I've noticed that every now and then when I search for something on google chrome, I get redirected to this search site called Butterfly Search Engine. I've never heard of it, and can't find any legit information on it other than the redirect may be caused by a virus. Anybody heard of this?

I was just wondering how you all got your music? Do any of you actually buy all your music, or do you use programs like limewire or frostwire? Or do you just torrent albums? Or do you do like I do, and use warez sites? I'm always looking for more music, so I was Just wondering if I could find other means.

Help / Tips on speeding up a computer.
« on: February 19, 2011, 03:57:35 PM »
So with this new laptop, i've got a fairly fast computer now and I really don't need to bother with my old desktop unless the laptop is being used by a parent or my sister, etc. which is good because It runs super slow and takes a good five to ten minutes after starting up before its even usable to go on the internet, open Itunes, etc. I was wondering though, if you guys have any tips for speeding up a slow computer. I updated some drivers on it, ran a registry cleaner, got rid of a few unneccesary programs, cleaned up the desktop, ran malwarebytes to get rid of some trojans and adware, and turned off a few visual effects. But none of these seem to have made any significant changes in the amount of time it takes to load programs and open windows and start up and stuff.

So are there any tips that you know of and/or have tried personally to speed up a slow computer?

Help / Patchswitcher.
« on: February 07, 2011, 03:15:20 PM »
Ok so apparently i'm just an uber noob and I cant get any patchswitchers to work. It might be because windows 7 can be a pain in the ass sometimes or it might be because i'm on a 64-bit computer, or it might be because i'm doing something wrong, but everytime I run the patchswitcher (and it says switch successful) I go to run the game and it goes to a black screen like its going to start, but then I get an error sound (no error message just an error sound) and I go back to the desktop.

I did everything exactly like the instructions said. I put the patchswitcher into my main battlefield folder, and ran the .exe without the game running. I even ran the .exe as an administrator and set permissions so that I'm able to modify any files in the folder, but still nothing has worked. I've tried the mafia patchswitcher and the 3v0 patchswitcher both to no avail. Anybody have any advice? I won't be able to play our server since i'm stuck in 1.61.

Help / Battlefield?
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:20:43 PM »
So I havent been all that actice as of late, mainly cuz i've been busy with school, music, and my girlfriend  ;) Also, I dont have ventrilo or battlefield on my new laptop, and since i seldom use my desktop computer anymore, I havent been on any of the servers. I can easily put ventrilo on my laptop since it has a built in mic, but how should I go about putting battlefield on it? I have 3/4 CD's needed for installation (one I accidentally rolled over with a chair lol) but I don't have the Cd's anymore. The missing one is just an expansion pack, but i'm not sure if its necessary for the full installation. So should I even bother with the CD's i have, or just torrent a copy of battlefield onto the laptop and get a CD key for it somewhere?
