Help / new problem with my computer!
« on: November 11, 2007, 01:26:13 AM »
My one drive that i have does not write anything. It reads CD/DVD perfectly fine, but won't write. I tried just using the "windows writer" thing, and i was just trying to copy a word document. I wasn't using any fancy CD/DVD burning program, just trying to write a .doc onto a blank CD, didn't work.

I did a lot of research on it, and apparently i'm not the only one who's had this problem, but in all my searching i wasn't able to find any sort of fix for it.

The brand is an LG "GSA-H45N" Super Multi Layer DVD+- Drive Recorder.

It didn't come with any drivers, i was thinking maybe i need those, but then i remembered i was able to just write word documents onto a blank disc on my other computer without any problems, and i didn't install drivers for that one either. Anyone please, i have no idea what i'm doing!

Help / i'm of need helpings
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:43:04 PM »
We have two computers at my house, mine, and the one everyone else uses. Both computers have ethernet holes in the back, but the family computer doesn't recognize the ethernet plug for some reason.

This wasn't a problem, because our DSL box had a USB and ethernet slot in the back, so when the ethernet thing didn't work on the family computer, i passed it off and just used the USB option instead.

I bought a router, so both computers can be on the internet at the same time...problem is, the router only takes ethernet (naturally). Roshan tried helping me with this some time ago, he said i needed to find the ethernet driver for the family computer...i couldn't find it.

I think the motherboard is an Intel i850. I'm pretty sure that's what it is, but i might need that program again to check, something called cpu-z i think.

My parents are constantly nagging me to get both of them to have internet access, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

BF 2 / ***ATTENTION ALL WIDESCREEN USERS*** BF2 widescreen fix
« on: October 13, 2007, 11:13:14 AM »
Here's a program to fix the BF2 lack of widescreen support. I'm pretty sure a few of you guys have widescreen monitors...wel l now you can get all the advantages out of it. It increases your field of view, and has been approved as "A-OK" by PB. Legit to use in MP, not considered a hack. Enjoy.

EDIT: works for both BF2 1.41 and the newest version of BF2142

News / How to save money and energy with your comp
« on: August 01, 2007, 10:19:07 PM »
here's a program that i've been using for a while, it's really convenient and super simple to use...i mean i can use it easily so it must be simple.

I have mine to automatically turn off my monitor after 5 min. of no activity, spin down my HD after 15 min. of no activity, and hibernate my comp after half an hour of no activity.

The best thing is, you can have exceptions, like it won't turn off your comp if you have _____.exe running, you just enter in the file name and it won't turn off your comp when so and so program is running. I have mine to not go to hibernate if firefox.exe is running, so it won't close out of my downloads or anything.

Give it a try, and it'll save you money on your electricity bill if you are like me and leave your comp on all the time.

Help / overheating issues
« on: July 30, 2007, 02:57:36 PM »
just got bf2 on my comp and i now have 1.5 gigs of ram, runs bf2 with everything set on full like a champ. One problem, my screen started changing colors after 3 hours of playing. I was at my friends house, he's a really smart computer tech head kind of guy, and he saw my screen and screamed "SHUT IT OFF NOW!"

so we went into catalyst control center and BIOS to check my graphics card temp, it was 76 degrees celsius. He said i was lucky it didn't melt down completely through the case. It's surprisingly resilient to still work after that extreme heat wave, but i was wondering, how can i fix this?

He told me to call who i ordered it from, i was on hold for 35 minutes then hung up. I  sent them an email asking for two 80mm fans or one 120mm fan because there's a fan cut-out in the front of my case, but no fan there. Also a bit of important info, the graphics card is in the Bottom Most PCIE slot and the slot above it is empty. My friend said to move the card up one slot and there shouldn't be any problems, but it's so damn big that i don't think it would fit without moving my card reader thing.

I'll include a pic of it's arrangement, any help would be appreciated. If i have to buy some fans and install them, any tips or instructions would also be appreciated.

Also, it has 3 case fans, and one fan for the power supply thingy.
