As some of you may have noticed there has been a bit of influx of the amount of spammers that register and create spam/advertisment threads on the forums. This is inevitable whenever you change hosts.
I have been deleting the spam accounts and posts as I am finding them but this would become tedious after a while, what I have been doing is comparing the e-mail registered to the spam account to a database of forum spammers:
http://www.stopforumspam.com/Every spam post I have seen was registered to at least one record in that database, that tells me that if I cross reference the Username, E-Mail, and IP registered on the account to that database and if I find a match then I know spam is soon to follow.
So..... the next logical step is to cross-reference the registration info automatically with the database and deny the registration of the spammer if there is a match.
This has been done by installing a Mod for SMF forums that does just that, lucky eh?
So, in short... The spam should subside.
