Why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?

I love a good argument over the death penalty.

The old adage 'Eye for an Eye' comes to mind, as well as others.

Myself, I believe there are so many things worse than death.

Why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?

It shows other people that killing is wrong because If they kill someone they'll be executed and thats a big deterent so maybe they'll think twice before pulling a trigger or knife. For the murderer maybe its simply to stop them killing again? Remember alot of people on death row are guilty of more than one murder. Or to simply save money for the tax payer rather than keeping them incarserated for the rest of their lives. I'd rather die than spend the rest of my life in a cell. Thats why alot of people facing life imprisonment ask for the death penalty and commit suicide.

referring to the above ^^ it isnt always cheaper to simply kill a person than to keep them in jail. a lot of the times once you get through all the trials and court crap and all the other stuff that is involved with a case big enough to be worthy of a death penalty, it comes out to be about as expensive if not more expensive.

Are you kidding? American jails are almost overflowing with prisoners. That is an enormous cost in itself.

Or America can adopt Columbia ways of prisoners and make the family support them or not.

some of these people though, just arent fit to live. they were given chances, but they wasted their whole life hurting others. my freind's mother went through years of abuse, and torture because of a person like this. her "husband" made a list of things he was going to do to torture her and carried them out one by one until she finally was able to get away. he popped one of her eardrums, forced her into getting the word "whore" tattooed on her forehead, cut off one of her fingers, and smashed her foot with a hammer.

when they arrested him, he didnt even get the death penalty, he got a life sentence.  you'd really rather have people like him living?

Agreed. Example of a case where this shouldn't be put into affect - Someone kills someone's family. The killer's family shouldn't be killed lol.
