AMD or Intel system
« on: November 16, 2010, 06:59:14 AM »

Hey guys, long time no see!

I am hoping to buy a new stationary computer (The shop will build it for me).
And I was wondering if which system would be better for gaming?
I have looked at

Intel Coreā„¢ i7 Quad Processor i7-870 2,93GHz, Socket LGA1156, 8MB.

Intel Coreā„¢ i5 Quad Processor i5-760Quad Core, 2.80Ghz, Socket 1156, 8MB.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core, 3,4Ghz, AM3, 8MB

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Six Core, 3,2Ghz/3,6GHz Turbo, AM3, 9MB

Theres not much difference in price on these CPU's expect the motherboard prices vary a bit. I talked to a friend (Floris,"the spy" from rs) who said that six core CPU's dont run that good in gaming because most games wont handle six cores very well. What do you guys think?

Note: I noticed I pressed the post button twice, either ignore or delete the previous topic.

I would say, get what ever one that would stop you from making two threads on the same subject.

Go with option #2. Intel Coreā„¢ i5 Quad Processor i5-760Quad Core, 2.80Ghz, Socket 1156, 8MB.

Post the price list also so we know if your shop is ripping you off or not.

Get the i5 or Phenom X4 for gaming.  You don't need 6 cores or Hyperthreading if you just want to game on it.

Im running an i5. When you go to buy all of the parts you need, try to go to a Frys Electronics. If there isnt one there, then you should just buy online from CompUSA.com It's where I got all of my new parts that I couldnt get from Frys.

Well, the prices might seem to be rip offs in your eyes, but electronics and computer hardware is cheaper in the US.. The shop I use is http://komplett.no . They have komplett in other countries but I think the Norwegians use it the most.

The i7 price is 2.250 NKR which is 374,95 USD
i5: 1495 NKR is 249,13 USD
AMD X4: 1395 NKR is 232,46 USD
AMD X6: 1995 NKR is 332,45 USD

lol your conversions to usd is wrong, I don't know whats wrong with it since if you move the comma over one to the left the computers are still greater than $20,000 lol; if thats the true price then your right that's a rip off in my eyes. If its $232.45 then wow I'm going to Norway! But I think you just failed in your conversion, just like you did in spelling "except" in your first post.

European countries, the comma is the same thing as the period here. So the price of the i7 is $374.95
