Battlefield 3
« on: February 23, 2011, 06:25:35 PM »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi2tae2PmmU

I am fapping so hard to this. This game is going to rock!

- 64-player multiplayer on PC.
- Prone.
- Lean.
- Bullet in the chamber is accurately counted.
- Jets, choppers, tanks, APCs, trucks, jeeps, boats, etc.
- They've confirmed they're making the flight mechanics more challenging than BC2, they want to make it so that you're still learning how to perfect new maneuvers dozens of hours into flying. They will have new cameras though, better than BF2, a proper follow camera like Ace Combat.
- Ability to break the sound barrier in certain jets.
- A-10, F16, F22, and F35 confirmed so far, probably going to see some Russian fighters next.
- No Carl Gustav and no tracer darts, instead, you'll have to learn how to properly use the AT4.

The game will support up to 32 CPU cores, and 80 channel surround sound on PC, EAX certified.
Fully destructible buildings--meaning even the 10 story apartment buildings and 30-40 story skyscrapers are destructible in the big city urban environments.

Check out this videos taken from the trailer and isolated:

Crazy animations and lighting.  DO WANT.

I'm mad about the tracers though.  If you shot a person with one in the face, it would put a giant blinking light in the center of their screen, made for hilarious trolling :D  Only real disappointment is no mods support.  Either way, I'm pre-ordering this.

Nice gifs! I can't wait for actual gameplay footage. I know the theatrical gameplay is just a teaser, but it's working damn well.

These are from gameplay  :wtf:  It's SP, but DICE confirmed this is not pre-rendered.  I'll find a link and edit this post.

In this trailer you get to see the first glimpse of actual in-game footage from Battlefield 3 as a U.S. Marine squad engages hostile forces in Iraqi Kurdistan.

I'm interested in seeing how this lighting is going to work. IIRC, it's generated instead of hardcoded. Also, wonder if Dual 8800 GT SLi will run this on low...
The game will support up to 32 CPU cores
Are there even processors with that many cores on the market? I though the present max was 8, unless it was a super-computer.

You make a good point, however there are motherboards that support 2 CPU's. There are probably server boards that might have it.

If you put two hexacore xeons with hyperthreading, you can have 32 physical cores I guess.  I don't think 8800s will work because the game only supports directx 10 and 11.  So ^no XP support either.  Iirc the lighting is dynamic.

MY 8800s support DX 10, however, they struggle to play BC2 with anti-aliasing on and @ 1680x1050 with max. And yeah, I meant to say dynamic lighting...

I'm definitely getting this game.  I'd be willing coordinate a BF3 segment of the clan.

@Offline
Oh, my bad, I thought dx10 wasn't until 9XXX series.  I would guess that you could play at, but only at pretty low settings.

@Ric
They haven't released the official specs, but I doubt that computer would run it :(

Are you willing to pay for a server also? If someone is still playing 1942, there's a good chance that their computer can't handle it. If you can't run BF BC2, forget about BF3.

Dual core CPU/non-DX10(11) video card is a huge "no."

If BC2 is any guide, the CPU is extremely important.  I can run it with s moderately old GPU (well, it's a single gtx 260, but it's still not exaclty new) at 1920x1080, settings maxed, aa and af at x4 because I have an overclocked i7 CPU.  People with core 2 duos or even core 2 quads can't run it like that.
