Wireless shit
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:00:25 AM »

So I have the Netgear dualband N600 wireless router. It supports to SSID channels, one at (2.4ghz b/g/n) that supports up to 145 Mbps and another at (5Ghz a/n) that supports up to 300 Mbps. I set up both to have a different SSID name and password so I could have 2 wireless networks in my house. Problem is my computer will not detect the 5Ghz channel. The router says its working properly (by way of blinking light) yet there is no sign otherwise. I checked my computers wireless network adapter specs online >>Here<< and it is compatible with Wireless-N so I have no idea why it doesn't show up... Any suggestions?

Edit... I suppose I don't detect it because the wireless adapter on my computer doesn't support 5Ghz, even tho it supports N. (which is fucking bullshit cause I just bought this computer yet I bought the router over a year and a half ago...) Still learning about all this.

Would it possibly speed up, or amplify wireless distance to the 2.4Ghz channel if I turned the 5Ghz channel off since no one in my house can use it?

I don't believe shutting one off strengthens the other.

Only way to make the signal better is to get the router as high as possible (antena hight), but with that said, 5 bars is just as good as one when comes to the higher Hz range, as long as that 1 bar doesn't drop in and out. Like what was said, nothing can be done to "speed" up the router.

You could buy a load of Ethernet cable. $10 for 30ft. I've got 4 Ethernet sockets on the back of my router.
