i have the latest bios, but it's still 2gb.  I have 3 gb installed (pretty bad speed ram though) but windows only shows 2 gb in it.

yeah i never heard about windows not being able to recognize more than 2, i have 3 on my xp pro.....also depends on how much the mobo can take.....

man all you need is 2 fucking gigs people... come on, and if u need a lil more, just plug in a flash drive and let ready boost fucking do its magic( in vista of course) i got me a 700$ sony vaio laptop at best buy, has a cheap ass intel intergrated video card, but a core duo 2.0ghz and a gig of ram. i use the shit out of it. one day i was running out of ram, so i popped in 1gb memory stick pro duo to the card reader and that problem disappeared.

That really depends on what you are using your pc for. But the majority needs 2gb or less
