Will You Upgrade?
« on: March 08, 2010, 01:41:12 AM »

For Battlefield Bad Company 2, here are the requirements.

For me, I won't be able to run it smoothly at all. I'm on a Pentium D 3.0 ghz and a 7900GS. Those 2 components are really going to kill me, and there's no sign of upgrading for me anytime soon. :(

Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Core 2 DUO @ 2 GHz
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version
Video Memory: 256 MB (NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT/ATI X1900)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista/7
Processor: Any Quadcore Processor
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version
Video Memory: 512 MB (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 10
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

Those may be a little misleading.  I have a single Nvidia gtx 260 card (so I just meet the recommended specs), and I am able to run at 1920x1080 resolution with all the settings cranked up all the way and still get good fps.  I've heard most people say you need at least an 8000 series to run it though :(

I've got a 9800GT (512MB) and BF BC2 runs ok at best. Although my processor isn't exactly killer. Xeon 3040 DC.  3GB DDR2 as well. Although after playing the game I can halfway understand why you would need such a beefy system, the environment physics remind me of Crysis and we all know how much of a monster it is in regards to recommended specs.

Ya you're probably right that the processor has a lot to do with performance (considering the physics), and I have an i7, so that may be partly why I can get away with running it at max settings.  And I agree, it favorably compares to Crysis in terms of physics as well as graphics and graphical effects.

So it looks like I'll be out of this game for a while. My computer lags so much even when I put it at the absolute lowest settings the game has. At every save point in the game, the game freezes up for a couple of seconds and simple things like the zooming in and out with the scope has a 1 or 2 second lag. So until I build a new computer, looks like no BF BC2 for me.

Same here Scoob, I'm riding this computer out until it dies or something drastic happens and I have to upgrade.

I just got this game for the PC and it feels like it should be on the console instead. I was expecting bf2 with new graphics for the pc, but got bf2 for the console on the pc.

    * 6GB tri-channel DDR3 SDRAM
    * 500GB 7200 RPM SATA II hard drive
    * Slot-loading CD/DVD+/-RW writer
    * Dell 2GB DataSafe online backup/storage for one year
    * Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11a/g/n half-mini wireless card
