Broadband speed help
« on: March 02, 2012, 03:39:15 PM »

Hey, my dad ordered 70/10 mb yesterday. He said no installation was required. I checked the speeds recently, but they are still at 12/5mb. Any help? I am connected to the router trough cable. I also tried to connect my computer directly to the modem with no luck. Same speeds. I also updated software on the router. Tried resetting the modem.

The modem isnt that old. Its from 08' or 09'.
The router is a Linksys WRT54G from ancient times.

Imo, new router needed. Sure yours isn't that old, but they sure didn't have anywhere near those speed when bought it. See what your isp recommends and buy it, time for a new one anyhow.

Advertised speed does not equal actual speed.

If it's anything like here, it took them ~3 days to switch 1.1Mbp/s to the 35 I ordered.

Thank you. This is probably the answer.

How much do you pay for yours? 70/10 is like $130 here, and that's if they even offer it.

Goddamn, so cheap. You'd think that the US would have the fastest internet for cheaper, yet Europe as a whole get it cheap. Don't even get me started on Asia.

This is the result when connecting directly to the modem. When I connect to the router, it shows 20mb/s download and 8mb/s up

Stop dlcking around and get a new router like I said and or make sure your settings are correct per your isp in the router. But more then likely, new router.
