A new Computer!!! w00t!
« on: December 11, 2006, 12:29:11 PM »

Ok, I'm getting a new computer.
It's a Fujistu Siemens Scaleo P with:

Windows XP Home SP2
Pentium Dual Core 820 (2.8 Ghz.) processor, 800 x 2 1 M776
VGA NV 7300SE graphics card,  64M/512M PCIe and TV out. (gonna replace it probely by a 512MB graphics card)
1024 Mb (2x 512 M , DDR533) DDR RAM and I'm gonna upgrade that later to 2GB
(It's called DDR RAM right? Or RIMM or RAMM?)
500 Gb (2x 250 Gb) harddisk
DVD dual layer SM optical drive
11-in-1 cardreader
And a 19" TFT screen.

Only three questions. What graphics card is the 'VGA NV 7300SE graphics card' I couldn't find it on the internet.

How much MB is it?

And it's a dual core, does that mean I have two times 2.8 Ghz? Or is it just one time 2.8 Ghz?

What do you think? Is this a good PC?

It sounds pretty good to me.  Of course there's always going to be somebody who says its crap, or theirs is better, or you should have done this/that, or you got ripped off, etc. etc., but it looks like you'll be fine with that new machine.  Nice.

Its a crap ass videocard could be 256mb, probebly 128mb, or like 64mb with shared ram. Its gonna run games, but not they way you would one.

Dualcore means you have 2 cores combined in 1 processor. So you can do multiple things at the same time.

And its DDR2 RAM (cause it runs at 533MHz)

nice system btw

That will be a nice system.

processor: good choice a dual core 2.8 will serve you for many years to come. And at 800mhz fsb dual core your effective fsb for that chip is 1600mhz.

graphics card: that is an nvidia a 7300se is a special edition, and means it uses hyper cache the card has 64mb of onboard memory and will use up to 512mb - over 64mb will be system memory.

memory: if you can afford it get 667mhz memory it will better serve the cpu on cache transfers. also 2gb is getting to be the norm.

memory name: boemann is correct its ddr2

monitor: be sure and get one that has less than 8ms response times on, on-off. if not the ghosting will drive you crazy.

Because I know you'll like it :laughing11:.  And to hopefully prevent others from saying things like that to Carnage, but they can if they want, oh well.

This is your video card. Scroll down, and all the way to the right.  It's ok, depending on what type of games you're going to play. If games like Bf 2142, then it's probably not going to cut it. I think you need atleast 256 mb for that game. If you are able to spend more money, go for a nvidia geforce 7600gs. Or if you're filthy rich, y not a 8800GTX? How much are you paying for the whole system? I would just go ahead and get a Dell. Not sure how Fujitsu comps are. http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7300.html

Make sure the reaction time is black-white-black, and not grey-white-grey. And yes keep it below 8ms. with buying a new videocard I'd wait like a month. Then the new cards of the Nvidia 8 series will come out (so from the same serie as the 8800GTS/GTX), so you won't have to upgrade your system any time soon.

the only problem with new series of the NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX/GTS cards is that they are gonna be $700 when they first come out way to much when you could get a eVGA GeForce 7950 GT KO its a little bit cheaper and only has 512 mb but should  be the best one for around $300 but whatever you look for try and and make sure that a few things are in check, A few things you want to look for in a graphics card are that it has at least 256 MB DDR Ram or if possible a G-DDR 3 memory, they have a good clock speed and memory speed, and also the size of the process.  The lower the micron the better for gaming.  :)
