Using the quote, answer the following:

What are our duties as citizens and how does political ignorance affect us?



Please no silly replies, this is serious.  I just want some ideas on the question.  Right now, I'm stuck at saying that our duties include providing support to the communities and doing our part of the taxes to better the lifestyle of people everywhere.  I have expanded on those a little, but I need a couple more ideas on the political ignorance part.  If you guys have any, please share.  Thanks for the help.

I have two different views.


1. The people must know what's going on to be free.  If they're ignorant of the world and what's going on, then we won't survive for long.  Our ignorance will be our downfall because we won't recognize the signs of failure before it's too late.

2. If were ignorant of the government's actions, then they can slowly take away our rights as citizens and we'd be totally oblivious to it.  While we're happy enough with just listening to what were told and not really caring what the truth is, we could be lead astray like sheep.

I don't have a lot of time but Ill give it a shot.  People that are ignorant to politics have no voice in what goes on.  We are a Republic and vote for the people that represent us.  Thus our voice.  If we don't know whats going on or what values our elected officials have then we basically have no interest in how we are treated and just go with the flow.  You can't be ignorant and free.  Freedom comes with a price.  Its not just blood, but the intelligence to make changes for the better.

I think you've got to broaden things Roshan. My grasp is he's saying if your ignorant to the world around you, your nation will never be free and safe, and when it comes down to it, your responsibiliti es fall further than the cosey boundaries of your borders. Sounds like your Tutors a bit of a hippy, he's basically saying the government is Ignorant and as citizens you should take it upon yourself to make a change. Man.. the 60's are back.....Hell Yeah!!!
No seriously If I were writing this essay I'd focuss on the responsibilty of citizens to conduct the government accordingly after all it is a democracy not one dumbass leading a dictatorship.
