So how do can I figure out if certain memory is compatible with my computer? The first memory I ever got with this computer wasn't compatible and I went through 2 GFX cards because I thought they were the problem.

one of the few things i know about, first what kind of motherboard do you have? Also, how old is your comp? There's DDR and DDR2 RAM(those are the most popular, there are others though), but i'm pretty sure it depends on what kind you have, like mine is PC6400 DDR2 RAM at 800mhz. So you need to find out what speed it runs at, i'm pretty sure if you use the program CPU-Z it will tell you ALL of that information.

www.crucial.co m  run the software and bam it tells you what u have, your motherboards max cap of memory and all that good stuff

I have a gigabyte GA-K8N-SLi MB, I have DDR ram, It's only 1g. Ram freq. 201Mhz... lawls. Any other info I need?

Can someone tell me if this memory will work on my system?

Also, when I do get the ram, should I take my old ram out or leave it in with the new ram?

lol, that link you posted will not work with your comp, that's DDR2 ram, the newest kind i'm pretty sure. It has to be at the same speed as yours, so if yours is 201mhz(i've never heard of that speed...) then you need to buy ram with that same frequency.

I just looked up your motherboard, it says it supports DDR400 RAM(so yours is not 201mhz, it's 400mhz), which is the same as PC3200. So look on newegg, and search for PC3200 RAM, that should be the kind you have.

Since it's an older type of RAM, it's a bit more pricey. Yes, you will want to keep your ram that you have right now, just make sure that the highest sized RAM stick is first on your motherboard. I know that's kind of confusing, but let's just say you have 2 X 512mb RAM strips right now....if you buy a 1 Gig stick of RAM, then you'll want to put the 1Gig stick where the first 512mb stick is right now. So basically, just move the two you have right now over one slot, so the highest (1gig) is farthest to the left.

If a DDR chip is pc400 then each side is running at 200mhz, hence his result.

Check the memory specs.  You way also wanna check what the CPU bus speed is and match it up.  But I would agree with wasser on this one.

if you already have one gig, why is another gig not good enough? 2 gigs is ample memory to play most games, unless you're into those shitty arcade games like crysis.

You don't need a new mobo, and i wouldn't suggest getting a new mobo because if you can't tell if you have DDR or DDR2 RAM, then i doubt you would know how to switch mobo's. No offense or anything, i mean i can't either, it's just i wouldn't suggest swapping something out like that just because your specific ram happens to be pricey.

There are 1 gig sticks available for your brand of memory, it just costs more. If you bought a DDR2 RAM compatible mobo, it would probably cost the same as buying two 1 gig sticks of PC3200 RAM.
