So I got another monitor to hook up but the second monitor just stays black. It is getting the signal because the light on it turns from orange to green, but it just flashes from a light black color to a dark black color (if that makes sense.) The green light on the monitor also seems to flash with the screen... weird shit. Maybe the monitor is no good? It is kinda old.

In any case you must turn the monitor on in the control panel of the drivers and tell the driver if you want to "clone" or "extend" your desktop.

 If you need more help tell me if it is a ATI or NVIDIA and I or others can help you.

You could also see about a 2nd monitor by looking at display properties and then Settings.

First, if your graphics card supports it, which most(if not all) cards do.
Second, Like Loaded said, Go to control panel (if using Windows XP) and click Add Hardware, or Device Manager (not sure if XP has Device Manager)
